Today on the blog we have the wedding of our gorgeous rockabilly bride Mel and her boy Lee, Mel was an absolute sweetheart to work with and was full of fun , crazy and kitsch ideas,
We created a design that was fun, comfortable and very Mel, we incorporated beade Swallows and a Mexican sacred heart into her design too..
Huge Thanks to Mel for this lovely testimonial and for sharing her gorgeous wedding photos with us 🙂
“The whole process of getting a dress from the Couture Company was perfect. The moment I walked into the studio I knew I had made the right decision. Jo was helpful and understanding throughout and every visit made me feel more confident, and each time I saw my dress coming together I got more excited to see the finished result. In the end, it was exactly what I had hoped for, and on the day I felt exactly as I should – like me! All of our guests commented on how the dress was perfect for me, and I felt like it too. I still get to wear a little bit of my dress now and again as one of the embellishments was made into a brooch so I could wear it as little memento, which is just lovely. Thank you to Jo and all her lovely staff for making such brilliant dresses! ” Mel xx

I am so excited to share Lizzie and Jake’s wedding !! We love this wedding so much, packed with so much fun colour and Love, truly unique and totally awesome, !! Lizzie and Jake were married at Birmingham’s Electric Cinema, and then went on for a mexican fiesta style party at the fabulous Bodega Bar in the city centre.
Lizzie chose our Gala dress as inspiration and we put some personal twists in it to make it unique to her, we added a cute little sleeve and over laid the spotty fabric onto the palest pink tuille, to give a really subtle pinky hue, It suited Lizzie’s colouring perfectly and she looked super cute
Huge congratulations on your awesome wedding guys xxx

Lizzie writes “My now husband and I put our heads together one evening and decided what we really wanted our wedding day to be about. We wanted it to be personal. We met in Birmingham and wanted to support the local businesses we loved. We booked our ceremony and reception venue straight away but the part I was most nervous about was finding my wedding dress. I knew the traditional white dress wasn’t my cup of tea, found the idea of trying on wedding dresses quite intimidating and didn’t know where to start looking for an alternative… then I went to The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza in Fazeley Studios, saw The Couture Company’s heavenly dresses and the rest was history!
On my first visit to the boutique, Jo sketched out the dress, a combination of a few dresses I’d seen and adored and I placed my order on the spot. Each time I visited for my fittings the dress was more and more stunning, it didn’t stop me from being super nervous before my final appointment when I got to take my dress home with me! Jo and the team were so knowledgeable, professional and welcoming, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect and “me” dress and felt incredible wearing it on our wedding day.”
Last summer, the lovely Laura and Jim were models for Steve Gerrard’s photography workshop , we were over the moon to get to play dress up with Laura , Laura wore our Cherry Blossom gown, and looked stunning 🙂

We are so excited that we will be back at EWE – aka The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza
There are 2 shows this year one in Birmingham on 1st feb 2015 and the other is in London 1st March 2015.
This stunning shoot should warm you up on these cold winter days, our penny gown was teamed with wools and wellies and we love it!! so cosy!
This awesome shoot was organised and photographed by the wonderful Lisa Devlin Photos
So lovely when we get to work with other awesome creative people, and one of those is the awesome Frankie Lynn who is not only gorgeous but also super talented and designs a range of shoes accessories for her Frankie Lynn’s Emporium , these beautiful images are by Scott Chalmers photography
Both Frankie and ourselves will be exhibiting at the Eclectic wedding Extravaganza on the 1st of Feb in Birmingham
Here is a shoot we worked on earlier in the year with awesome Alternative wedding photographer Assassynation. The theme was Post-Apocalyptic and we threw in a bit of Neo- steampunk in there for good measure… Not exactly wedding attire but hope you like it as inspiration 🙂
We particularly loved working on the leather cog embroidery and and have used this a couple of times since for wedding gown decor :
Pay special attention to the awesome headpiece that our pals over at Working Clasp designed especially for the shoot 🙂
What a sweetheart Lorna was!!! we loved working with her on her gown…..
What can I say about Jo and the team?
A breath of fresh air?
I knew I wanted a short dress and ideally something a bit 50’s…I trawled all the local (and not so local) traditional bridal stores in search of ‘the one’.
But what I found was pushy staff, taking one look at my size and directing me to the ‘loo roll’ holder dresses. I must have heard it at every store, “you don’t want a short dress, full length will be more slimming”.
Not that many dress shops even had a short dress in stock…
I was miffed off; I knew what I wanted…this shouldn’t be so hard! After lots of googling I found the Couture Company website…yay! After looking over the site with large excited eyes, I emailed Jo for an appointment.
Me and my Bridesmaid headed off in the snow last January 2013 to meet Jo and the Team, and it was totally worth it…So many beautifully quirky dresses for all sizes, and there, amongst the satin hung ‘the one’, well as close as I had got so far. A polka dot 50’s frock…love at first sight!
I visited again with Mum in tow, and Jo sketched out the tweaks I was after…I still have the drawing…there, on that little sketch was my wedding dress…bespoke for me!
What more could a girl ask for??
Every time I visited Jo and the team I felt welcomed and nothing was too much bother and it was great to see my dress evolve from the doodle, to the mock up – to the final version…
And the result, was my perfect dress (and a lush corset to match) – I felt amazing and best of all, I felt like me.
So many of my friends have spent a small fortune on their dresses and an array of alternations, which still led to an ill-fitting dress. With Jo and the team, I got my dream dress, bespoke to me, which fitted like a glove for the same price as an off the peg.
I felt amazing on my wedding day and I had so many compliments on my frock and how it was just ‘so me’.
I couldn’t recommend Jo and the girls more – thank you!

We met Grace last year , and what a fabulous bride she was, we had many laughs and giggles, and some happy tears. What a joy it was to meet her and her family and friends at the fittings, We are so chuffed for her and Ed, Congratulations!! You Rock!!
Grace writes …..”What can I say about Jo and The Couture Company?
I found my “Wedding Godmothers” through a very well-known wedding blog at one of the lowest points in the wedding planning. Any bride struggling to find the “perfect” dress will know how hard and upsetting it is when you just can’t find it anywhere.
I knew what I wanted my wedding dress to look like, I had an image of the neckline, length and style. I had tried an awful lot of dresses on as well as shedding more tears than I care to think about now. Then I saw a wedding on the blogs and the bride was wearing this incredible dress that had been made by The Couture Company, fully bespoke and totally amazing, and like a light bulb going off in my head I knew I had to see them!
Jo and her team we fantastic from the start, I felt so comfortable and relaxed with them from the second I walked in, I knew I would be leaving the shop with my dress sorted. We talked through my ideas and style and I tried a few of their dresses on, Jo brought out all kinds of fabric for me to consider and give ideas and styles I had never thought about. For the first time since I started trying dresses on I felt great! Just as I thought I had decided on “the dress” I saw a sketch the dress I had imaged in their workshop and couldn’t believe how perfect it was.
Because Jo and her team make each and every dress from scratch themselves the process of design and styling is so fluid and allowed me to make minor changes as we went, from embroidering “GRED” and our wedding date into the underskirt, to an ombre bow at the back (which I am completely in love with!) giving me the perfect most incredible dress which my imagination could never have thought up on its own.
Jo and her team as so supportive, honest and unbelievably knowledgeable about everything wedding, if I was struggling with anything to do with the wedding, stockists or ideas I always spoke to them about it in my consultations and came out with everything solved and clear.
No one can prepare you for the emotions, stress and worry you will face when planning a wedding, but to have someone like the Couture Company there with me through made it so much easier. I cannot recommend Jo and the team enough, not just because of their super talented hands and minds, but because they are there 100% for each and every bride, and there is no better feeling than that….well except for wearing one of their dresses!
I cannot thank The Couture Company enough for what they gave to me and my husband. Who said that he thought he had a clear idea of what my dress would be like, on our wedding day he told me that nothing could have prepared him for how beautifully perfect it would be!
Thanks a million Team Couture.
Thanks so much for coming to us to make your dress Grace, what a blast we had!!
Thanks so much to the incredible Assassynation for these wonderful photos. We love ’em!!
Ps Did you spot our pals The Rebel party Band in there? they are flippin brilliant!
Photos from the “Underworld ” series by acclaimed alternative photographer Rebecca Litchfield with our wedding dresses
A few weeks ago we were invited by creative photographer Rebecca Litchfield to collaborate with her on her ” Underworld” project, after seeing the images she had already done on this , I was absolutely honoured and super excited to be able to provide some of the gowns for her Muse to wear at this daybreak shoot in an abandoned manor house….
These photographs just blew us away……so so SO beautiful
Here is what Rebecca wrote about her wonderful and inspiring project ”
For so long I dreamt about this scene, my heart torn apart that I would never be able to make it a reality. But then one day while talking to a friend, I was made aware that it was possible, it wouldnt be easy, but that has never stopped me before.
I was lucky to have an amazing model, Jessica Nicole Griffiths recently arrived in London from Melbourne. She was so up for it, it made me the happiest person alive and with the help of amazing Matthew Adams and Richie Gowen we had made it into the house in pitch darkness, arms full of beautiful gowns made my The Couture Company
During the mission to get inside, Richie had already faceplanted a shallow river as he slipped on the log across it. Poor Rich was freezing cold as we slept in this beautiful abandoned manor house.
Sleeping in such a decaying building, with the bitter cold coming through the windows and dust coating the floor, it was a test of endurance, but worth it when the sun finally came up and revealed the beautiful house ready for us to get these photos.I’m so happy I made this a reality finally. I hope you enjoy the photos”

When my best friend Karl announced at Glastonbury, whilst waching Cold Play ” I’ve done it!!! I turned round to see Kate crying and Karl looking like the biggest grinning idiot I have ever seen in my life …”Done what ” half knowing what he meant, but not wanting to shout ” Congratulations” in case he hadn’t asked Kate to marry him, and he meant ” I’ve done it as in I’ve done all the vodka in!!”and Kate was inconsolably crying because it was a half hour round trip to the bar!…” Karl ” I shouted over ‘Fix You’ “You need to tell me in complete words what exactly you have done???”” (I had to be sure he had actually done it). ” I’ve asked Kate to marry me!!!” he beamed…. well that was it we all cried, that is one of the happiest moments of my life….seeing my best pal of 25 years at the best moment of his life!!!! Happy days
So Fast forward 2 years and we were at The Shireburn Arms near Clitheroe all ready for the wedding of the decade, I was honoured to be asked to be Best Man/woman and doubly honoured that Kate wanted me to make her wedding gown!!!
We had the best day!! I hope I did a great speech (phew!!) and no body wanted it to end (the day that is not my speech!!), it was Epic seeing all our friends all together in the same room , all happy all smiling and all so so proud of Karl and his beautiful bride Kate
These wonderful photos were taken by my other good pal Sassy from Assassynation Photography, she did a fantastic job of capturing the day
Here are some lovely words from Kate on having her dress made xx Thanks beautiful!!
“Having a custom made wedding dress was something I thought I could only ever dream of so I was over the moon when it became a reality!
Joanne and her team designed and made my dream dress, it was perfect and just my style.
I had some ideas of what I wanted and after my first consultation Jo I knew it was going to be amazing. I loved trying on the sample dresses, it was really useful and helped me loads in deciding on a final design. One of my most memorable moments from our big day was seeing Karl’s face as I walked down the aisle he was beaming from ear to ear. I felt fantastic and it helped to make our wedding day the best day of our lives.
I had so many compliments on my dress, it was just perfect and couldn’t have wished for anything more . I would definitely recommend The Couture Company to anyone; Jo has such an array of stunning designs and a really creative team.”
Love you, love my dress! x Kate”
What a wonderful time we had getting to know Maria nad her family, we totally loved working on this gown, we love that it is a 1950s inspired gown, very similar to our Steph design, but the fact that its full length just let the style take on a whole new look, We think Maria made the right choice when picking her colour, we absolutely love this teal blue silk dupion…and it was such fun designing her heart and snowflake belt and head piece too.
We love our work so much, because every bride is different and every dress is unique to them and their wedding!!
On Marias final fitting Maria brought her daughter who is at University, and the pride in her face when she saw her mum, telling her mum how beautiful she looked ( My eyes are leaking as I type). It was a wonderful and very fulflling moment, and there wasnt a dry eye in the shop, Sally our embroidery wizard was passing the tissues round to everyone.!! Moments like that are what makes our job THE best job in the world!!
Maria wrote “I can only say a massive thank you to everyone at The Couture Company for the unique wedding dress and corset they creative for me. I would not hesitate to recommend them. From the moment of my first visit, they made me feel valued and special. When designing the dress, they used my homemade invitations to create the belt heart and snowflake motif which turned out just perfect. So much so, I ask them to me a headdress with a bird cage veil which they again executed brilliantly. At my final fitting, there wasn’t a dry eye in the shop.On our wedding day, my husband was blown away by the dress. We had an amazing day. I can’t wait to get my dress shortened by Jo and wear it again.
Mike was absolutely amazed by the way I looked. We are both so glad we came to you. Wishing you a happy new year with lots more amazing dresses x”

We love brides like Sarah who love to add personal details to their gowns and make them a truly unique and one off . bespoke gown. Sarah chose a pretty ivory 50’s design but we added her wedding colours into the embroidery and beadwork – see how the bridesmaids dresses match the embroidery of the daisy chain around the neckline and the swallows on the back ? We love the detail on the back of the dress, it is so pretty and really commemorates her wedding day! What better way to do this than add your names and the date of your wedding ???
“Having a dress designed and made for me was the most wonderful luxury that I never would have imagined possible before I embarked on my wedding dress hunt. I didn’t have a huge budget and so I thought this would rule me out of working with a designer but visiting the Couture Company proved me quite wrong. After going to Jo’s shop I was incredibly excited about the possibilities they had opened up for me in terms of dress shapes, colours, fabrics, embroidery, accessories…the list goes on! Jo and the team were incredibly helpful throughout the whole experience, listening my ideas and making suggestions of brilliant things that I never would have thought of.
I was extremely daunted by the prospect of searching for a wedding dress as I knew that traditional styles and fits weren’t for me but once I had visited Jo I was relieved and delighted that the whole process became so enjoyable and inspiring. I knew I wanted to have some colour and fun in my dress whilst still looking elegant and more tradition bridal gowns just didn’t offer this. I wouldn’t have been able to find anything to even come close to my finished dress from anywhere else, the skill, passion and creativity of Jo and her team is clear in every stitch of my beautiful dress.
On our wedding day I loved everything about wearing my dress, it was just beautiful and I couldn’t have been happier with it. The unique, personal touch of the embroidery was beyond anything I could have imagined and even now it makes me happy whenever I think about it or see it in a photograph. My husband and all the guests were amazed with the detail of the embroidery too having never seen something like it before, it was definitely a talking point!
Stevie loved my dress and said it was just perfectly ‘me’ which I agree with completely. He told me after the day that his brother, the Best Man was whispering a commentary to him as I was walking down the aisle and described me as looking vintage and very chic! Which I think is a great description especially coming from a man who knows near to nothing about dresses!
I can’t recommend the experience of working with Jo and her team highly enough, if you are getting married any time soon I urge you to go and see them and find out what they could make possible for you. 6 months on, if I could get away with wearing my dress to go down the road and buy milk then I would, it is the loveliest thing I have ever had the pleasure to wear and I didn’t want to take it off!
Thank you Jo and all at The Couture Company.”
