We have the best job in the world, Have I told you that before?? a few times maybe…we have the most wonderful, awesome adventurous clients, and Nicola was no exception…..she planned her Vegas elopement with total badassness (is that a word???)
We were beyond excited to see her wedding photos and just love Paul at Forged in The North’s shooting style
I just couldn’t choose just a couple of my favourites so I have pretty much shown ALL the photos in this post 🙂 Enjoy!!
We were then doubly delighted to receive such an awesome testimonial from Nicola about finding us and her dream dress.. Thanks so much to Nicola
“Once we’d decided on having a Vegas wedding, I knew I had to have something special for my dress. I’m a huge fan of glitter and thought a glitzy old style Vegas glam dress would be perfect. I had a look online at dress styles and through Rock n Roll Bride magazine and found a general idea of what I wanted. There were some shops on ebay and other websites that had similar dresses but the glitter looked tacky.
Continued further down….
It was only when I was flicking through an issue of Rock n Roll Bride that I came across The Couture Company and as soon as I looked at the pictures, I knew it was the place to make my dress, and it wasn’t far for me to travel which was a bonus. My only worry was that there wouldn’t be enough time to get it done.
There was no need for me to worry. I went to my first appointment, pictures in hand, and explained the dress. Jo was fantastic at telling me what would suit my figure and how best to do it all…and it could be completed before we flew to Vegas!
I was so excited for each appointment, and when I saw the fabric for it, it was perfect and such amazing quality. I was expecting to leave a trail of glitter behind me and for the dress to be bare at the end of the day but I didn’t lose a single piece. I loved going to the appointments and standing in front of the huge mirror and seeing it all come together.
On the day, I had so many compliments from strangers about the dress. How glamorous I looked, how it was a film star dress and I truly felt fantastic the entire day.
After all the photos were taken, we walked down the strip in our outfits and bought a 30 inch pizza and carried it all the way back to the hotel. People were cheering and taking pictures of us along the way. Was absolutely our dream wedding day and the dress was definitely the star. Thank you so much Jo for all your hard work!” Nicola D

Oh I do love a New York wedding!!!! and I was so Over the Moon to see Jo’s wedding pics and read her lovely write up, I must admit it brought a (happy) tear to my eye…especially reading when she was heckled by a New York stranger saying “OMG – you are THE most gorgeous curvy bride”,
Check Jo and John Paul out in New York City!!!- so cute x

Thank so much to Jo for putting her story down for us xxxx
“Here’s the deal – I have always been fat. And I really don’t mind the word fat, it’s not negative, it is just one of the many words that explain what I am. But in my head I wouldn’t never have expected to put the words fat and bride together… I just thought ‘oh well, a wedding will push me to lose lots of weight’. But it didn’t, and it didn’t because I was marrying a man loved me for who I was, tells me I’m beautiful every day, and well, let’s be honest, is a bit of a chunk too! We can style it out! However, as little as I ended up caring about being a thin bride it seemed that the wedding industry still has some work to do (let’s not even get on to the speccy bride thing…).
So when I was thinking about, and started looking at dresses I knew that a traditional bridal shop wasn’t for me. I’d been dress shopping with friends in the past, watched size 12 friends being told to ‘lose a bit’ on their hips, and frankly, the one thing I never do is what people tell me to do! And only having the option of trying in two awful designs because I’m nowhere near sample size – eurgh!
So I looked online and discovered The Couture Company – wow! Amazing dresses, my tattoos wouldn’t be hidden, but enjoyed, and the individualism of the dresses and just seeing them on ‘plus size’ (awful phrase) models really helped me visualise what I could look like. 100% amazing!
Now here’s the thing, we were on a budget, and at the time I really didn’t feel I could justify a bespoke dress. So I did some hunting and after a bit of exploration settled on a 1950s style dress from ASOS – not quite the dream, but yes, I’d still look pretty good if I styled it right and wouldn’t need to go in a bridal shop. I then spent as much money again on some gold glitter Joy Folie heels, and got a pair of cat flats from ASOS for the reception.
However, wedding plans changed – plans for a big barn wedding were ditched and following a text exchange with hubs-to-be about how much of a faff the whole thing would be, and some genuine heart searching from me about the kind of wedding I really wanted having lost my dad in 2007, we cancelled the barn and booked ten days in NYC! Boom!
We opted for a Humanist ceremony in the Central Park Ladies Pavillion, it was so much like an old band stand, and as we met playing in a brass band it just seemed right. We followed that by a small registry office ceremony in Lichfield the day after we got back – full house jet lag.
An important note to make here is that my mum is a legend! And as such she just wanted us to be happy – so I offered to pay for New York. (Love that woman!). So we had significantly slashed our budget and were much happier about what we had planned.
That just left me questioning the final piece of the jigsaw, the dress.
And I knew that to have the perfect dress I had to go and see Jo at The Couture Company. I booked an appointment, went along with the three most important people in my life – mum, John Paul (my husband), and my big brother, David.
I went in with a drawing for a belt design that I wanted – pearls and crystals with ‘to the moon and back’ written in a banner. And I tried on several dresses, eventually going back to the lacy one I tried first – asking for a more structured top and a blush fabric underneath with some gold detail. The thing that got me was the lace – stunning! I just wanted to twirl!
The important thing to say about Jo and her team is that at every appointment they were excited with me, genuinely passionate about what they do and made me feel like I could look amazing! (Without a single mention of my size 20 ass and tummy, or my epic bingo wings).
Every visit to them filled me with excitement, seeing the dress come to life and the tweaks to show off my tattoos or those added little details that made the whole dress and experience so special.
Jo nailed it! As one of crazy guys in Central Park shouted, on a raining day in late March “OMG – you are THE most gorgeous curvy bride”, I genuine was in agreement (no shame here!) and I took that with immense pride.
So at the end of it all I got my perfect dresses, and married an amazing man. I cannot thank Jo and the team enough. I know my experience was tied up in my size, but that didn’t cross their minds at all. I have no doubt that every bride that they see comes away feeling like they made the best decision ever. I know I did! Jo Sweet xx “
Well , I am very very excited to share this gorgeous wedding with you because we just LOVED working with Lina on her gown!! the brief was “Dark Fairytale” and we loved it!! We created the embellishments and hand painted the hem line and Lina created most the colourful creatures on her dress!! . When she told us she was wearing antlers and elf ears for her Swedish waterside woodland wedding we knew this was going to be an amazing wedding !!. We love everything about this and think that Lina and her new husband Karl look like absolutely magical creatures too
Photos with thanks to Studio 56, Sweden
Thanks so much to Lina for these lovely words 🙂 , seeing and ready about the weddings we work so hard on is the best part of our job
” A HUGE thank you for everything! The whole process was a joy, I felt you got the idea straight away and it couldn’t have been realised better. The dress is simply stunning, it made me feel amazing the whole day and everyone loved it. It’s a fairytale dress, it more than any other part really made the wedding theme work! Your attention to detail, the experimental parts of the process, the imagination – you and your team have been fabulous! I almost want to get married again for an excuse to wear the dress again (or get another one!). The wedding was great fun – a big party with everyone more or less dressed up. We had werewolves, elf warriors, fairies, even a demon or two.Thank you so much, words can’t express how happy I am with the dress! ”

I felt like a superhero in heels!!! Meet our Roller derby space goddess !!! -Alternative coloured wedding dresses
Meet our awesome bride Karen, we love our clients so much and Karen is no exception, she was as crazy as a kipper , mad as a hatter and just downright bloody awesome!!!, She knew exactly what she didn’t want and most of time exactly what she did want.
Sparkles, bubbles, colour and more colour and oh a bit more colour!!! We think she looked completely stunning on her wedding day and here we see her as our very own intergalactic boho bubbled up space goddess, that’s the only way to describe this gorgeous girl. 🙂
Congratulations to you both you look awesome
Thanks so much Karen for your awesome testimonial, we know our brides will LOVE reading your story 🙂
I knew from the start I didn’t want a traditional wedding dress. In fact, that was really the only thing I had in my head when I started looking for what to wear on my wedding day.
I had searched online for ideas and found a breadth of conflicting themes that I liked… none of which I was completely sold on.
We planned a tiny wedding (just us, our witnesses and their partners), so it didn’t feel like a “proper wedding” to me. Because of this I knew whatever I chose to wear, I didn’t want it to look like your typical wedding dress. I wanted to be comfortable but pretty, dressed up but not over-dressed. And it had to be true to me… which meant a racer back top (so I could wear a sports bra – how anyone wears a wired bra all day is beyond me), sparkles of some sort and a healthy dose of colours.
I was drawn to Jo because of a picture on her website. I Googled local dressmakers because I wasn’t finding what I wanted in the shops. I landed on the Couture Company website where I was greeted with a picture on the front page from the Intergalactic (http://www.the-couture-company.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/the-couture-company-designer-wedding-dresses-dress-space-sparkly-sequins-gold-intergalactic-alternative-unusual-unique-44.jpg) range; a Florence and the Machine-esque image that I immediately loved. It showed a dancing woman in flowing sheer colours. Very festival. Very ethereal. Very NOT wedding. Very me.
I booked an appointment to talk about what I wanted, and when I went in for my first meeting, the outfit in question was standing in front of me on a mannequin. Fate right?
I tried it on and I put down a deposit there and then.
As much as I hate to be that person… I had several pre-wedding freak-outs (that Jo dealt with very well). In the time between trying on, and falling in love with the outfit – a wraparound sheer georgette masterpiece with a sequin dress beneath – I was suddenly really scared that actually it made me look frumpy. I had opted to not wear the dress underneath so that I could pick something more to my style, but then spent so long overthinking what these under garments would comprise of that I nearly changed my mind on the whole thing overnight.
Jo laughed it off, told me I looked stunning, and calmed me down with talks about sequin hotpants, racerback tops and a promise that whatever shoes I opted for she would be able to make them work. She let me try the outfit on again and beamed “See!” at me when I gave a relieved smile at seeing it on again. I didn’t look frumpy. Stupid brain.
I picked the colour of the dress based on a coin-toss (between teal green and purple… it landed on green) and let Jo run wild with the theme of “bubbles and all the frigging colours”. She used colourful bead and sequin detailing to create the illusion of bubbles coming down from my shoulders, and added a huge pop of colour with a fuchsia sash – which also got the bead and sequin treatment. The bubble theme ran throughout our engagement and wedding, it has a meaning for us and I wanted that reflecting in my outfit, which worked out perfectly.
I spent a few weeks customising some old shoes, adding layers and layers of glitter and accents, and creating my own fabric bouquets to perfectly match my dress. I had rainbow colours put in my hair too, so altogether I really did have “all the frigging colours” and felt amazing.
I brought a friend along to my final fitting. I hadn’t brought anyone along up until that point because, as I said, it wasn’t “a proper wedding” in my head. The friend I brought is a local jeweller, Bella, from Magnus & Bella (based in the Jewellery Quarter). She made my engagement and wedding ring and knew how important the bubble theme was to me. When I came out of the changing room she welled up and said I looked perfect.
On the day of the wedding I remember putting the parts of my outfit together. I felt like a super hero in high heels and short shorts drinking mimosas while my best friend helped tie the bow on my sash. In the sunshine and light winds the dress looked beautiful, flowing behind me as I walked. Strangers came up to me to tell me it was gorgeous and ask where I had got it from. It was pretty cool to say it had been handmade just for me.
So thank you, Jo and the team, for understanding my desire to not look like a bride and for making me a piece of walking artwork. I would highly recommend The Couture Company to anyone looking for a special outfit because you don’t need to have a big white dress on to feel like a princess.

Meet the Loves, Aimee and Lenny!! YES !! true dat name!! Meet Mr and Mrs Love… we absolutely LOVE everything about this wedding!! What an awesome couple and a truly fantabulous wedding…. Its everything I could wish for in a wedding and more, Gorgeous bride, rainbow colours, crazy ass groom, pineapples, gorgeous smiles, fun times, and badass photographer Assassynation!! Love love and More LOVEThanks so Much Aimee for this awesome write up, I know our brides to be will love reading this 🙂
“I’m so happy with my experience at The Couture Company and would recommend anyone wondering whether to take the plunge or not to just go for it! I was such a pain up the arse bride and changed my mind on what I wanted about 3 times! Poor them. But Jo took it all in her stride, listened intently, calmed me the hek down (the dress was the only thing that completely overwhelmed me) and im glad to report we got there in the end. I even wanted to change the style of my dress on my last but one fitting, less than 2 weeks before the wedding, and it was just done for me, no bother, no judgement, no problems. When I finally tried my dress on in my last fitting, 4 days before my Wedding, I knew I’d made the right decision to have my dress made for me (even though it took me a while to get there!) and the team did an OUTSTANDING job on the final piece. The lace; the finish and the craftsmanship was beautiful. All my family cried when they saw me. Phew!!!
The reason behind all the changes of mind were basically down to a 2 stone weight loss over the course of our engagement. As the weight came off I became more body confident and realised that I didn’t want to hide behind the mass of material I’d originally wanted when I’d gone for my initial consultation. I started off wanting sleeves, i.e wanting to cover up my arms, but months later (and arms slightly skinnier) I’d asked to have them chopped off. I’d initially wanted gathers and pleats to hide my tummy, but as tummy got smaller I felt I had the confidence to go more fitted and streamlined. Jo was a true Pro and completely understood my Bridezilla demands!!! She was SOOOO patient with me. I couldn’t have apologised enough. She did exactly what I asked and didn’t once let on that she probably wanted to kill me. God bless her!
I honestly couldn’t recommend the Couture Company more. I couldn’t imagine wearing anything else now and most importantly, hubby LOVED it!!! Thankyou to everyone who worked on my dress” Aimee Love x

I have admired The Couture Company for many years (even before the twinkle of my engagement ring) and their amazing dresses. When I got engaged to my now husband, I knew that I had to visit Jo and the team. However, one day I walked past a Bridal shop on a local high street and decided to just enquire (I was excited after all). The response from the lady was not so pleasant and she advised that they stocked nothing above a size 12. I went home and cried.
When it came to my first appointment with The Couture Company, I was a little nervous and apprehensive to say the least. I had nothing to be nervous about. Jo was AMAZING. There were dresses of all sizes, styles and colours. The fact that I was plus size was never a factor. I knew I didn’t want a long dress as I wanted to show off my wedding shoes and I had the idea of going for colour, as the Couture Company is so colourful.
I tried on a few of the sample dresses and then with the assistance of Jo’s creative mind, I decided on what I wanted. Over the next few months I had several appointments and each time I felt very welcome and comfortable with Jo. On the final fitting I tried on my dress to show my Mom and Dad and their reactions reinforced the fact that I had made the right choice in dress and The Couture Company. I didn’t feel like a plus size woman in a dress. I felt beautiful, confident and happy. I couldn’t wait to marry my now husband.
My wedding dress was flawless in every way. Jo and the ladies made me feel beautiful. I still look at my dress every day, because it is so perfect. The ladies attention to detail is amazing. I recommend them to any woman that is thinking of her wedding day.
I am so excited to share Lizzie and Jake’s wedding !! We love this wedding so much, packed with so much fun colour and Love, truly unique and totally awesome, !! Lizzie and Jake were married at Birmingham’s Electric Cinema, and then went on for a mexican fiesta style party at the fabulous Bodega Bar in the city centre.
Lizzie chose our Gala dress as inspiration and we put some personal twists in it to make it unique to her, we added a cute little sleeve and over laid the spotty fabric onto the palest pink tuille, to give a really subtle pinky hue, It suited Lizzie’s colouring perfectly and she looked super cute
Huge congratulations on your awesome wedding guys xxx

Lizzie writes “My now husband and I put our heads together one evening and decided what we really wanted our wedding day to be about. We wanted it to be personal. We met in Birmingham and wanted to support the local businesses we loved. We booked our ceremony and reception venue straight away but the part I was most nervous about was finding my wedding dress. I knew the traditional white dress wasn’t my cup of tea, found the idea of trying on wedding dresses quite intimidating and didn’t know where to start looking for an alternative… then I went to The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza in Fazeley Studios, saw The Couture Company’s heavenly dresses and the rest was history!
On my first visit to the boutique, Jo sketched out the dress, a combination of a few dresses I’d seen and adored and I placed my order on the spot. Each time I visited for my fittings the dress was more and more stunning, it didn’t stop me from being super nervous before my final appointment when I got to take my dress home with me! Jo and the team were so knowledgeable, professional and welcoming, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect and “me” dress and felt incredible wearing it on our wedding day.”
I have a crazy pal, her name is Anne, she is an excitable ball of energy and love, and when our Gentleman Jim (yes he is also a bit crazy) proposed and they announced not one but 2 weddings we all knew we were in for a treat!!!. We even formed a secret choir to perform/ruin some of their favourite tunes at at the wedding!!
Its always ALWAYS a massive honour for me whenever friends or family ask me to design and make their wedding gown, it fills me with enormous pride that they trust me to come up with something that is very “them”. No Pressure!!!! but in a way its also easier as I know them and know their tastes.
I was especially doubly honoured that they asked me to be the officiant/celebrant at their festival wedding ….you might spot me in my dog collar 🙂
What a brilliant couple of days with brilliant friends and a BRILLIANT COUPLE!!! Big love and happy Anniversary to Anne and Jim xxxx

Anne tells her dress story
“I have known Jo for some time now and had seen some of her work before, being very impressed by the quality of the work and by the bold statements that some of her designs make. So, when my soul mate pushed me off the side of a mountain in Turkey (with a paraglider!!) and was waiting for me at the bottom with his proposal, I had to say yes!
Very quickly my thoughts turned to what I would wear though!
Being an older bride and having been married before I knew I definitely didn’t want anything traditional OR white! We had decided to have a festival style wedding because we spend most of our summer travelling around the country putting our tent up and down in various fields and enjoying friends both new and old and jumping around to some of our favourite bands and embracing some that are new to us, altogether, having FUN!
This in mind, I knew there was no way I was going to find what I was looking for in any old wedding shop. Thank goodness I knew Jo. As you will see from this testimonial, if I can say it in 20 words why say it 3! I hot footed it over to Jo and her fabulous team and started to explain what I was looking for. I was all over the place and was so nervous because this is a really important decision to make, all eyes are going to be on ‘that dress’!!
From the initial chat on a night out to the moment I put my dress on for the final fitting I can honestly say that Jo and her fabulous team were amazing. They helped me to focus and offered advice when they knew better than me, because I am not a dress designer and they really do know what they are doing! This is where you really see Jo’s talents too because she has a thoughtful and sensitive way of guiding you toward styles, colours etc that will suit you and work well without trampling all over your very definite ideas and desires.
My dress had to be fun. It had to flatter my slimmest point. It had to allow me to move and jump around. It had to cover the ‘bits’ I don’t like. It had to reflect our love of music in some way and it had to have an element of ‘greenness’. Jo’s suggestion to have a record disc on a belt was just the icing to whole look. So many people have commented on my dress and I felt so wonderful the moment I put it on, it is so hard to do justice to the whole process in words.
If you are looking for a real statement on your wedding day then I would urge you to speak to Jo before you go anywhere else because she can take that seed that is bouncing around your brain and translate it into your boldest and most beautiful moment ever!!
So lovely to open the email containing this wonderful wedding, we really loved working on Emma’s
“Something Blue” dress , and so pleased that she absolutely loved her experience with us 🙂
Thanks Emma for your kind words and huge massive congratulations xxxx
“When we got engaged, I didn’t really have the first clue where to start finding a dress. I looked online and they were all so….. ivory. Nothing I saw online in any wedding dress boutique stood out; it was like swimming in a sea of white. I knew I didn’t want that, but trying to find something a different colour became nigh on impossible. Sure, there were different coloured dresses; plenty of reds, champagnes and golds, but blue is my favourite colour and I knew I wanted a blue wedding dress and I knew I wouldn’t find it in a regular high street boutique.
Pinterest became hell on earth. So many beautiful blue dresses, but they didn’t seem to exist in the real world (well, not in the Midlands anyway). I started searching online for alternative wedding dress shops all over the UK, until I found the one shop to rule them all, less than 20 miles from home!
From the start, I knew The Couture Company was perfect. I arranged a visit and took a friend along for moral support where I met with Jo’s colleague Sally. Sally was lovely and professional and as I tried on some sample dresses, we started to get an idea of what my perfect dress might look like. My friend recommended I try on a baby pink ‘Cherry Blossom’ sample (pink being my idea of hell!) but it became apparent that this was to be the basis of my dress, as I loved the daisy lace and it was so flattering on my top half.
After a return visit, Jo sketched out the dress, with the same daisy lace, but with a long straight skirt, small train and a pearlescent blue material replacing the baby pink and I fell in love with the design completely. I had to have it.
The whole process from start to finish was a dream. On my final fitting, I couldn’t believe how beautiful I looked, and how flattering the dress was. I’ve always had large hips and bum and it’s an area I don’t like to draw too much attention to, but the dress just skimmed over my problem areas and made me look gorgeous. I couldn’t believe a dress could fit so well!
When the big day arrived, everyone commented on how beautiful the dress was and how it was so ME. It really was. The Couture Company took my dream dress and made it real, and for that I will always be grateful.”

We have the best job in the world!! Honestly, I know I say it a lot but we have such fun!!!!…
We had such an amazing time working on Leigh’s dress, she was such good fun, knew what she wanted , knew she needed a dress that wouldn’t get caught in her unicycle wheel! I mean these are regular wedding considerations aren’t they??…well nothing surprises us and we will totally go with the flow to make a dress that fits in with our bride and her wedding plans…If you follow what we do then YOU KNOW THIS right 🙂
These fantastic photos are by the very talented Chris Barber Photography, and we really appreciate the amazing job he has done !!
Leigh wrote in her thank you card
“ I hope you are doing well – thank you so much for the dress it is so beautiful and it really made my day on the 12th 🙂 I had so many lovely compliments and the dress was just so ‘me’ I couldn’t have asked for anything better 😀
Thank you so much for creating my beautiful wedding dress and being so accommodating about the dress working with my unicycle- I am not sure where else I could have gone would have done that!!
My dress helped me feel like “ME” on the day, which was so important and I will treasure it forever!! Love and huggles * Leigh XXX”
The lovely and crazy Cath came to us wanting something that was “here” not to girly, not to long, not to hot as she was getting married on Christmas day on the beach in Sydney, Australia….so we got to work and made this rainbow inspired starstruck dress !!! such good fun!!! Congratulations lovely lady! xx
We Had a lovely testimonial and review left by Cath””A unique place that loves life, love and your experience there – just the best place you could go to make your dream dress a reality!! I’ve never reviewed before or felt any need, but these guys are so beyond awesome, more people should get the chance to have their wishes come true and The Couture Co. deserve all the props, praise & business for making it so xx Much love”
Cath wrote to tells us about her day “thanks so much again for all your hard work. The dress was everything I hoped it would be… It was pretty hot in the morning after some epic raining which caused no end of stress, so I wore the petticoat part of part of my dress at the beach with a light white frock, then for our first [!] xmas lunch, I had on the corset with leggings, then later when we went to like a Xmas all inclusive buffet, which was awesome and cooler, I had my full ensemble on! It was just as perfect and changeable as I’d dreamed, so I had the paper dolly dressing up combo effect that I wanted to help me feel confident throughout the whole day and thank you again so much.
So as it was just us and everything was closed, we had hours to prat about taking pics, so I’ve sent some that are styling, that showcase your awesome work [as best we could with a click stick] and just us plebbing about which was pretty much our theme – I giggled all the way through the 10 minute ceremony and as I’ve said, ended up having 2 Xmas dinners and getting totally plastered, just how we wanted it!”
There are no words for how totally awesome this wedding is, and they had a Zebra there too!!!
We loved every minute of helping Becky with her dress from initial consultation to her actually coming in the shop ON HER WEDDING DAY!!!! to say hi!! (can you spot me and the team???) What a pair of legends Becky and Simon are!!
These EPIC photographs are copyright and with Thanks to Assassynation
“I couldn’t be happier with my wedding dress made by Jo and her team! Before visiting the shop I’d tried on quite a few dresses that were lovely but not very ‘me’ and I was feeling a bit stuck. I was nervous about the idea of having a bespoke dress, it felt like a lot of pressure! Fortunately, right from the start Jo just seemed to get what I liked and wanted.
The final dress was beautiful and so well made. It (obviously!) fitted perfectly and I felt amazing in it all day. Despite it being a little less traditional, everyone at the wedding loved it and it got so many compliments:)
My husband and I visited the shop after the wedding ceremony and the team all seemed so excited. They clearly take a lot of pride and care in what they do and this shows in their awesome dresses! I’ve been lucky enough to be asked to take part in the ‘real bride’ parade at the upcoming Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza, and I’m sadly very excited to have a reason to put my dress back on again! 🙂
I couldn’t recommend The Couture Company highly enough, the whole process was a pleasure :)Thank you so, so much!! xxx If you want to see Becky in her dress in the flesh, then come along to the Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza on the 21st Feb at The Bond in Birmingham
Our bride Nikki came to us wanting something quirky and cute, we loved working on this french lace and silk polka dot frock for her, and especially love the flash of apricot underneath 🙂 so I am delighted to have received these photos by Louise Holgate Photography of Nikki’s wedding!! so cute and so so gorgeous!!
Thanks so much to Nikki for writing this testimonial too…
“If anyone was to describe me, they would say I was fussy, headstrong and incredibly particular about the clothes I like! In the run up to my wedding in July last year, I visited numerous wedding shops where I was left feeling deflated as I couldn’t seem to find the dress which fitted the bill. I wanted a vintage, french style with a bit of a unique twist. After scouring the internet I came across The Couture Company in Birmingham; it was right on my doorstep! After my first session with Jo and her team, they quickly and skillfully designed a dress which met every detail that I had been looking for. Over the next few months they crafted a dress which had a traditional style but was teamed with a quirky, modern twist. The quality of the fabric was second to none and the dress was made to fit me perfectly. I can’t thank Jo and her team enough for my perfect dress. I would highly recommend these skilled ladies! Thanks , Nikki”

I am so happy to share this awesome bride and her gorgeous wedding with you today!!!!!
When Lowri came to us we were mega flatterered, not only did she travel up to see us from Devon , she also said she had done lots of research and couldn’t find anyone who did the kind of designs we did, and as designers that is a extra special compliment to know that brides recognise our own unique style.
Lowri had a wonderful fun packed wedding on the coast, jam packed with loads of activities for her guest to enjoy, Lowri and Lee thought of everything for everybody at their wedding, and that really comes across in her beautiful photographs,
I cannot thank Lowri enough, she has been such a champion for the Couture Company, not only by trusting us to design her gown along with very personalised embroideries, but by shouting about us whenever she gets the chance. I am so glad to share this lovely testimonial with you brides to be, hope fully it will give you an insight into how we work 🙂
“I knew my dress had to be red and I knew the basic shape I wanted, but finding a quirky alternative dress that was still beautiful, enhancing and not too ‘out there’ was not as easy as I assumed it would be”, she explained. “Then I found The Couture Company. I tried to find someone similar more locally but once I’d seen Jo’s dresses no-one else could compare! In the end it was so worth it to me to travel to Birmingham for my fittings. I booked an appointment and all I can say is the whole process was a dream. Jo got what I wanted from the start and was flexible enough to alter the personalisation halfway through when I changed my mind. Jo really made me look just as I imagined I would on my wedding day. She was amazing!”

Absolutely thrilled this week to have these awesome photographs by Chris Barber from Emily’s wedding!!!
We loved working with Emily on her wedding dress in creating something that was totally her!
We were really blown away by her wonderful testimonial
” I originally tried to find a dress on the high street, but after a couple of shopping trips I couldn’t find anything that felt special enough for my wedding day. ‘That’s it’, I thought, ‘I’m going to have to go to a proper wedding dress shop’. This was something I was dreading. I knew I didn’t want to wear white and wasn’t sure if I would feel myself in a traditional gown. Where was I going to find a dress that was unique, comfortable and reflected my personality?
Then, I remembered I had seen the Couture Company at the EWE wedding fair and liked the fact that they championed brides of all shapes and sizes and could cater for a wide range of style preferences. I made an appointment… and I’m so glad I did – as soon as I stepped inside the studio I knew I didn’t have to shop anymore, I had found what I was looking for! I told Jo my ideas and before I knew it she had drawn a beautiful little sketch of my dress. It was all very exciting.
However, my favourite experience was the second fitting when I got to try my dress on for the first time. I felt the skirt was a bit too long, so I picked up the material in a haphazard way and said, ‘Oh I quite like it when it looks messy’. Jo told me not to move and immediately started pinning and cutting – with me still in the dress! It was such a spontaneous moment and it was fantastic to be a part of the creative process like that. And, the end result? I couldn’t have asked for more – it was absolutely wonderful!
I think Jo and her team played a big part in the fact that I felt just like myself on my wedding day. I didn’t have to worry about the dress as I knew every inch had been carefully crafted. As we got married near the Couture Company studio we were even able to pop in on the day and thank Jo in person. It was lovely to surprise her and allow her to see her work in all its glory!

Fran is just my ultimate bride, I was hooked on her wedding from the moment she got in touch!!! originally she had planned a Halloween wedding but gorgeous baby Nancy Stein’s arrival had some influence on that getting put back a little 🙂 so fast forward to March this year, and Fran and her beau Lewis were married in castle, they took their 2 sphynx cats, their family and had an awesome day at Tutbury castle and its ruins. We love Fran, totally gorgeous girl that she is, she rocks her curves like I only wish I could, and I absolutely love her awesome photographs by Assassynation
an I cannot Thank you enough for this beautiful testimonial ( it made my eyes leak !) x
The Dress- Ok so Fran is obsessed with leopard pattern print, so when she told me this we had to have it in the dress, but we didnt want it “in your face” leopard, we wanted to give it a subtler look, so we over laid the corset and skirt with a gorgeous silk organza over dress in a really lush charcoal grey . Then because we had achieved such a magnificient corsetted waistline we had to show that off with a bright red colour pop belt, and Fran asked us to do a Heartogram in jet beads, which of course we did on a back drop of beaded leopard print!!! Of course we did !! I love how the organza covers the corset and skirt but shows them off at the same time, and I love the organza over her beautiful tattoos, just gorgeous !!!!
This wedding makes me very proud of our Team at The Couture Company , and proud of what a great team we make 🙂
“I was planning my wedding but knew that I would eventually have to face the awful prospect of wedding dress shopping. I had been to traditional wedding dress shops with friends for their weddings, and absolutely dreaded walking into a shop full of long white dresses, diamante and disapproving glances at my above average size. My fiancé and I trawled through sites – each one pushing me further into despair until we thought of alternative wedding dresses. I saw a photo of a beautiful black gown from the Couture Co, which made such a vivid impression I knew I had to go there. I assumed they must be in America – a wedding dress shop this amazing couldn’t be in this country – but it was and only a 25 minute drive from me! I couldn’t believe my luck! I rang and made an appointment straight away. A few days later I was in the shop with my mum and sister and knew immediately that it was THE shop for me. There was no point in looking anywhere else!
I was really nervous – I’m not the most confident of people, bigger than most and have no idea what suits my body – or what I really wanted in a wedding dress. I have so many interests but no particular style. I love 50’s fashion, but I’m also a bit gothy with some grunge thrown in. I usually wear film/band T shirts and shorts or jeans with Dr Martens, so the prospect of choosing a dress scared me to death.
Jo made me feel so comfortable straight away. She asked me what I was looking for and I think she knew I didn’t really have a clue. She asked about my interests and passions, and about Lewis and his ideas for Groom suits. My only helpful idea at this point was that I wanted sleeves! I tried the black dress on that I saw online, but it wasn’t really me. Jo didn’t make me feel terrible – that it was somehow my fault that the dress wasn’t right – something that terrified me from ordinary wedding shops. Jo suggested that I tried a corset (which I ADORED) and there was no going back. It was beautifully made and my waist looked tiny, which is always good. I remember walking around the shop in just a corset and underskirt and I would have happily walked down the aisle like that! My mum mentioned my love for Leopard print, which I never thought I could incorporate into my wedding dress…but when Jo brought out some material and I instantly fell in love.
Jo drew a sketch of the overall dress and it was amazing! We were all so excited– everything came together so perfectly. Jo is so talented – she had amazing ideas and she never once made me feel like I was too fat or ridiculous to wear this fantastic dress. She seemed to understand me, putting my personality into the dress and checking that I was happy with her interpretation. I didn’t feel pressured or railroaded into something that would make me feel uncomfortable – Jo has such a lovely way of making you seem the most interesting person in the room. I actually said to my mum on the way home that I felt that Jo had dived into my head and pulled out my perfect wedding dress.
I was so excited for every fitting, and Jo and her team made me feel so comfortable. They are also really adjustable and compassionate. I was measured for my dress, but a few months later I emailed Jo to say we were expecting a baby! My wedding date changed and the whole wedding dress ended up being nearly two years in the making. I stayed in contact with Jo, who was really understanding when it came to extended payments and fittings and the change of wedding date. I doubt this would have happened anywhere else!
I’m so glad I found Jo and the lovely Couture Co. I felt so amazing and gorgeous on my wedding day, and Lewis couldn’t stop looking me. We had kept the design a total secret, so the reaction when I walked into the castle for my wedding was incredible. I had gone from uncomfortable, worried to death bride to confident 50’s leopard skin vamp (complete with cat ears) in one go. I had never felt so good about myself – and Jo had made it all happen. I honestly couldn’t fault a single thing – my dress was perfect for a formal castle wedding to jumping the broomstick at our handfasting ceremony – I just wish that Jo could design and make all my clothes! I cant thanks Jo and her team enough!”
Hayley first conatcted us, telling us she dreaded dress shopping, as she wasn’t a “girly girl” and didn’t wear dresses, but she LOVED our Inkspiration tattooed gown that she had spied when searching the web, and she ended up falling for it hook line and sinker, there were even a few tears!!!
Hayley is very much an outdoors person and she wanted her wedding to reflect that , lots of fun, and lots of dancing, and she wanted to wear something that would have room for both 🙂 Thanks Hayley for your pics and a very honest and lovely testimonial 🙂Hayley writes “Well, I never thought I’d be faced with a decision to choose a wedding dress. I don’t do dresses. Or makeup, or much girly to be honest. I’m an outdoor girl, climbing, snowboarding, and playing in the alps. Not much scope for dresses.
, After being dragged kicking and screaming into a local bridal shop with my sister. . (Which was horrendous!!) , I started scouring the Web and I spotted THE dress. Half joking with myself, but also in the knowledge it was the closest I’d come to wanting to wear one.
It had tattoos all over it. Was fifties style, funky, and not the norm. Much more like it. As my husband to be was to wear a “shite shirt”….. I’ll let you look them up. . . A proper traditional frock would not do.
I contacted Jo at the couture company, and made my appointment.
I honestly didn’t expect to burst into tears, in a good way, because I loved it so much, but also cost was not what I’d ever considered to spend, especially not on a dress!
A can of coke and piece of cake, phone call with tears to stew later, who informed me if I was crying over a dress then I’d better have it, as nothing else would do . . . Done deal. I’d have to work my butt off for the next eight weeks to have it. And so would Jo and her team as it was rather last minute.
Jo dealt with my tears and dress fear well, creating with me something exactly that I wanted, tattoos, sleeves, v neck shape, none of that satin stuff inside. . Instead some cotton, and definately not puffy. I think I became a bit bridezilla ish for a while!
My first fitting arrived, I was so excited and nervous.
Everything I had decided on went out the window, off with the sleeves, and on with the puffy. . Lots of it too. I wanted this dress to twirl when I danced. Jo altered everything, swapping and changing to my demands. Finally collecting the finished dress, with my mum in law to be. . Who was a little dubious of my plans. . .It was fantastic. And she loved it too . “Very you” she said. I just couldn’t wait to wear it now.
And it is the most wonderful dress in the world, embroidered with “bloke and bird” as we affectionately call each other! Wings on the back, and love hearts Bon Jovi style round the bottom. Red and black hem underneath. Just amazing. Loved wearing it so much, coupled up with my red doc martins 🙂
We were to marry on the Isle of skye, outside, underneath our favourite mountains.. The black Cuillin.
The weather had other ideas, tail end of hurricanes from the Atlantic lashed the north west.
We were not dampened. . . The ceremony was held inside the Sligachan hotel. It was brief, no fuss, and we were married.
We did pop outside for some wet blown away photos. . . Which to be honest summed us up perfectly rather than looking all posh and groomed, hair everywhere. . Situation normal.
My dress swung round fabulously when we danced, and blew around in style in the wind outside. Everyone spent the day photographing up close the tattoos, and the comments of admiration for it made me feel a million dollars.
You made the dream dress for me Jo and I never thought that possible. I can’t ever thank you enough, it was worth every penny and more. 🙂 xx ”
Congratulations to our bride Kate and her fella Sean who got married in December on a gorgeous crisp day in the gorgeous picturesque town of Stratford.
Kate cames to us wanting a vintage inspired dress with modern twist, so we got to work on designing her dream gown, and included her favorites a Dragonfly and snowflakes
Kate wrote us a lovely testimonial, and we are so happy and proud to have been able to make her dream dress 🙂
“I initially found the thought of wedding dress shopping mildly terrifying to start off with. I knew from the start I didn’t want a traditional style of dress, but had no idea what other options I had available. Some serious internet research later, (and a little hint off the lovely Sassy!) I made my first and only appointment at a wedding dress shop and the awesome journey began!
From the first moment I walked in to Jo’s gorgeous store full of nerves, I knew I had found the right place for me. Jo listens to your ideas (I had literally none!) and then lets you rifle through the rails of what can only be described as dress heaven 🙂 I picked out three or four I wanted to try then the fun bit began!
After going home to ponder, I finally settled on ‘The One’ and went back to the shop the following day. Jo listened to my ideas, gave some fabulous ones of her own and together we settled on a final design.
All through the process, Jo and her team were absolutely lovely. I enjoyed every single one of my fittings and was made to feel at ease at every stage. To see your dress take shape each time you pop in was fabulous to see, and you knew that what you were getting was absolutely one of a kind. Not many brides can truly say that.
The finished dress was so much more than I could have ever dreamt of, I was absolutely blown away. Happily so was my husband! He has said that it was better than he ever could have imagined (there were even a few tears! ) All day long I had comments from friends and family saying how wonderful and original it was, even the registrars complimented it!
I really cannot recommend Jo and her team enough. If you want the dress of your dreams, and I genuinely believe that no dream is too crazy! Then Jo can make them come true for you….. Kate xxx ”
