We have the best job in the world, Have I told you that before?? a few times maybe…we have the most wonderful, awesome adventurous clients, and Nicola was no exception…..she planned her Vegas elopement with total badassness (is that a word???)
We were beyond excited to see her wedding photos and just love Paul at Forged in The North’s shooting style
I just couldn’t choose just a couple of my favourites so I have pretty much shown ALL the photos in this post 🙂 Enjoy!!
We were then doubly delighted to receive such an awesome testimonial from Nicola about finding us and her dream dress.. Thanks so much to Nicola
“Once we’d decided on having a Vegas wedding, I knew I had to have something special for my dress. I’m a huge fan of glitter and thought a glitzy old style Vegas glam dress would be perfect. I had a look online at dress styles and through Rock n Roll Bride magazine and found a general idea of what I wanted. There were some shops on ebay and other websites that had similar dresses but the glitter looked tacky.
Continued further down….
It was only when I was flicking through an issue of Rock n Roll Bride that I came across The Couture Company and as soon as I looked at the pictures, I knew it was the place to make my dress, and it wasn’t far for me to travel which was a bonus. My only worry was that there wouldn’t be enough time to get it done.
There was no need for me to worry. I went to my first appointment, pictures in hand, and explained the dress. Jo was fantastic at telling me what would suit my figure and how best to do it all…and it could be completed before we flew to Vegas!
I was so excited for each appointment, and when I saw the fabric for it, it was perfect and such amazing quality. I was expecting to leave a trail of glitter behind me and for the dress to be bare at the end of the day but I didn’t lose a single piece. I loved going to the appointments and standing in front of the huge mirror and seeing it all come together.
On the day, I had so many compliments from strangers about the dress. How glamorous I looked, how it was a film star dress and I truly felt fantastic the entire day.
After all the photos were taken, we walked down the strip in our outfits and bought a 30 inch pizza and carried it all the way back to the hotel. People were cheering and taking pictures of us along the way. Was absolutely our dream wedding day and the dress was definitely the star. Thank you so much Jo for all your hard work!” Nicola D
If you are heading stateside to get married be sure to check out Forged in the North ….
Is this dress just the cutest most fun dress we have ever made?? I really think it is…I have been waiting to see the photos for a while and boy was it worth the wait. Krissy was just the loveliest bride, right up our street….she absolutely loved what we do and was so excited at every meeting and fitting…. We created Krissy’s dress in silk organza and appliqued handpainted lace flowers around the waistline and skirt, and finished it off with the brightest rainbow petticoat and buttons 🙂
We are so lucky to have so many amazing and unique brides!
Thanks so so much for this lovely testimonial Krissy “Thank you so much for the wonderful wedding dress you made me. I had a lot of anxiety around being ‘a bride on display’, and when we were planning the wedding the worst bit was thinking about the dress, as someone with poor self confidence and body image i was terrified, and felt i would never find anything i would be comfortable with. Thank glob we found you. The minute i walked in i was stunned by the dresses on display and sally made me feel so comfortable during the first fitting. Nothing was too much trouble, it felt like a true collaboration. Most importantly I felt comfortable, beautiful and super excited! After that day i had no more worries about how i would look on our big day. I was so excited about each fitting and knew i would always be met with a warm welcome. When we came to collect the dress and i tried it on i couldn’t believe it, i know it would be fabulous but you exceeded my expectations. You took my dreams and made them a reality. On our wedding day i felt beautiful and confident, and I know that Matt loved the dress too. I got so many compliments and even now over a year later people still talk about the amazing wedding dress I had. I haven’t been able to put it away and still have it hanging up so I can look at it! I would highly recommend Jo and her team of wonderful ladies for anyone, especially if you want something wonderful! Worth every penny. Thanks so much! ”

Jess’s eclectic frock was totally unique and bespoke to her and her wedding -Alternative Wedding Dresses
We met Jess when she entered ( AND WON) our competition at the Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza, what an amazingwedding she had planned, lots of fun and brimming with everything her and her fiance Roger loved!!
We were so excited creating the sea green, teal and black gown for Jess, from finding the green leopard print to coming up with the ideas for Jess’s eclectic mix of embroideries to go on the dress, there were so many great personal touches from an embroidery of Rogers fave guitar, to a Totoro for Jess’s son Zak, we included a tardi hurtling towards the Milky way, conjoined skulls, musical notes and a bird skull feather bow on the back.
I absolutely love these photos by our awesome Assassynation
Not only did Jess find ourselves and Assassynation at the show, but she found the lovely Ellie the celebrant from Alternative Ceremonies Uk , and also the fabulous entertainment of Joypads Come to the Eclectic wedding Extravaganza on the 1-2nd April in Birmingham , and enter the competition to win vouchers to wards your wedding dress and photography with The Couture Company and Assassynation 🙂
Well , I am very very excited to share this gorgeous wedding with you because we just LOVED working with Lina on her gown!! the brief was “Dark Fairytale” and we loved it!! We created the embellishments and hand painted the hem line and Lina created most the colourful creatures on her dress!! . When she told us she was wearing antlers and elf ears for her Swedish waterside woodland wedding we knew this was going to be an amazing wedding !!. We love everything about this and think that Lina and her new husband Karl look like absolutely magical creatures too
Photos with thanks to Studio 56, Sweden
Thanks so much to Lina for these lovely words 🙂 , seeing and ready about the weddings we work so hard on is the best part of our job
” A HUGE thank you for everything! The whole process was a joy, I felt you got the idea straight away and it couldn’t have been realised better. The dress is simply stunning, it made me feel amazing the whole day and everyone loved it. It’s a fairytale dress, it more than any other part really made the wedding theme work! Your attention to detail, the experimental parts of the process, the imagination – you and your team have been fabulous! I almost want to get married again for an excuse to wear the dress again (or get another one!). The wedding was great fun – a big party with everyone more or less dressed up. We had werewolves, elf warriors, fairies, even a demon or two.Thank you so much, words can’t express how happy I am with the dress! ”

I am so excited to share Lizzie and Jake’s wedding !! We love this wedding so much, packed with so much fun colour and Love, truly unique and totally awesome, !! Lizzie and Jake were married at Birmingham’s Electric Cinema, and then went on for a mexican fiesta style party at the fabulous Bodega Bar in the city centre.
Lizzie chose our Gala dress as inspiration and we put some personal twists in it to make it unique to her, we added a cute little sleeve and over laid the spotty fabric onto the palest pink tuille, to give a really subtle pinky hue, It suited Lizzie’s colouring perfectly and she looked super cute
Huge congratulations on your awesome wedding guys xxx

Lizzie writes “My now husband and I put our heads together one evening and decided what we really wanted our wedding day to be about. We wanted it to be personal. We met in Birmingham and wanted to support the local businesses we loved. We booked our ceremony and reception venue straight away but the part I was most nervous about was finding my wedding dress. I knew the traditional white dress wasn’t my cup of tea, found the idea of trying on wedding dresses quite intimidating and didn’t know where to start looking for an alternative… then I went to The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza in Fazeley Studios, saw The Couture Company’s heavenly dresses and the rest was history!
On my first visit to the boutique, Jo sketched out the dress, a combination of a few dresses I’d seen and adored and I placed my order on the spot. Each time I visited for my fittings the dress was more and more stunning, it didn’t stop me from being super nervous before my final appointment when I got to take my dress home with me! Jo and the team were so knowledgeable, professional and welcoming, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect and “me” dress and felt incredible wearing it on our wedding day.”
I have a crazy pal, her name is Anne, she is an excitable ball of energy and love, and when our Gentleman Jim (yes he is also a bit crazy) proposed and they announced not one but 2 weddings we all knew we were in for a treat!!!. We even formed a secret choir to perform/ruin some of their favourite tunes at at the wedding!!
Its always ALWAYS a massive honour for me whenever friends or family ask me to design and make their wedding gown, it fills me with enormous pride that they trust me to come up with something that is very “them”. No Pressure!!!! but in a way its also easier as I know them and know their tastes.
I was especially doubly honoured that they asked me to be the officiant/celebrant at their festival wedding ….you might spot me in my dog collar 🙂
What a brilliant couple of days with brilliant friends and a BRILLIANT COUPLE!!! Big love and happy Anniversary to Anne and Jim xxxx

Anne tells her dress story
“I have known Jo for some time now and had seen some of her work before, being very impressed by the quality of the work and by the bold statements that some of her designs make. So, when my soul mate pushed me off the side of a mountain in Turkey (with a paraglider!!) and was waiting for me at the bottom with his proposal, I had to say yes!
Very quickly my thoughts turned to what I would wear though!
Being an older bride and having been married before I knew I definitely didn’t want anything traditional OR white! We had decided to have a festival style wedding because we spend most of our summer travelling around the country putting our tent up and down in various fields and enjoying friends both new and old and jumping around to some of our favourite bands and embracing some that are new to us, altogether, having FUN!
This in mind, I knew there was no way I was going to find what I was looking for in any old wedding shop. Thank goodness I knew Jo. As you will see from this testimonial, if I can say it in 20 words why say it 3! I hot footed it over to Jo and her fabulous team and started to explain what I was looking for. I was all over the place and was so nervous because this is a really important decision to make, all eyes are going to be on ‘that dress’!!
From the initial chat on a night out to the moment I put my dress on for the final fitting I can honestly say that Jo and her fabulous team were amazing. They helped me to focus and offered advice when they knew better than me, because I am not a dress designer and they really do know what they are doing! This is where you really see Jo’s talents too because she has a thoughtful and sensitive way of guiding you toward styles, colours etc that will suit you and work well without trampling all over your very definite ideas and desires.
My dress had to be fun. It had to flatter my slimmest point. It had to allow me to move and jump around. It had to cover the ‘bits’ I don’t like. It had to reflect our love of music in some way and it had to have an element of ‘greenness’. Jo’s suggestion to have a record disc on a belt was just the icing to whole look. So many people have commented on my dress and I felt so wonderful the moment I put it on, it is so hard to do justice to the whole process in words.
If you are looking for a real statement on your wedding day then I would urge you to speak to Jo before you go anywhere else because she can take that seed that is bouncing around your brain and translate it into your boldest and most beautiful moment ever!!
So lovely to open the email containing this wonderful wedding, we really loved working on Emma’s
“Something Blue” dress , and so pleased that she absolutely loved her experience with us 🙂
Thanks Emma for your kind words and huge massive congratulations xxxx
“When we got engaged, I didn’t really have the first clue where to start finding a dress. I looked online and they were all so….. ivory. Nothing I saw online in any wedding dress boutique stood out; it was like swimming in a sea of white. I knew I didn’t want that, but trying to find something a different colour became nigh on impossible. Sure, there were different coloured dresses; plenty of reds, champagnes and golds, but blue is my favourite colour and I knew I wanted a blue wedding dress and I knew I wouldn’t find it in a regular high street boutique.
Pinterest became hell on earth. So many beautiful blue dresses, but they didn’t seem to exist in the real world (well, not in the Midlands anyway). I started searching online for alternative wedding dress shops all over the UK, until I found the one shop to rule them all, less than 20 miles from home!
From the start, I knew The Couture Company was perfect. I arranged a visit and took a friend along for moral support where I met with Jo’s colleague Sally. Sally was lovely and professional and as I tried on some sample dresses, we started to get an idea of what my perfect dress might look like. My friend recommended I try on a baby pink ‘Cherry Blossom’ sample (pink being my idea of hell!) but it became apparent that this was to be the basis of my dress, as I loved the daisy lace and it was so flattering on my top half.
After a return visit, Jo sketched out the dress, with the same daisy lace, but with a long straight skirt, small train and a pearlescent blue material replacing the baby pink and I fell in love with the design completely. I had to have it.
The whole process from start to finish was a dream. On my final fitting, I couldn’t believe how beautiful I looked, and how flattering the dress was. I’ve always had large hips and bum and it’s an area I don’t like to draw too much attention to, but the dress just skimmed over my problem areas and made me look gorgeous. I couldn’t believe a dress could fit so well!
When the big day arrived, everyone commented on how beautiful the dress was and how it was so ME. It really was. The Couture Company took my dream dress and made it real, and for that I will always be grateful.”

Rock and Roll Baby!!
I love this shoot so much, it brings back so many memories of Sally (our embroidery genius and myself) excitedly designing researching, being excited about launching the first and original tattooed wedding dress. It seems like a million years ago but at the same time only yesterday…. I thought when I came up with the design idea, ” I really don’t care if anybody likes it or “gets” it, I just wanna do it for me ” for me as a designer who wants to create truly bespoke and customised custom made and alternative wedding dresses, luckily for us the dress hit the mark for lots of ladies wanting a bespoke and tattooed wedding dress, so many awesome ideas and embroideries have happened for many awesome brides and below are just a small selection This shoot stars by beautiful gorgeous pal and muse Miss Stephanie May and was photographed by our good pal Steve Gerrard Photography. This will always have a special place in our 24 year history for this dress we called Inkspiration and the lovely people we meet along the way xxxx

We have the best job in the world!! Honestly, I know I say it a lot but we have such fun!!!!…
We had such an amazing time working on Leigh’s dress, she was such good fun, knew what she wanted , knew she needed a dress that wouldn’t get caught in her unicycle wheel! I mean these are regular wedding considerations aren’t they??…well nothing surprises us and we will totally go with the flow to make a dress that fits in with our bride and her wedding plans…If you follow what we do then YOU KNOW THIS right 🙂
These fantastic photos are by the very talented Chris Barber Photography, and we really appreciate the amazing job he has done !!
Leigh wrote in her thank you card
“ I hope you are doing well – thank you so much for the dress it is so beautiful and it really made my day on the 12th 🙂 I had so many lovely compliments and the dress was just so ‘me’ I couldn’t have asked for anything better 😀
Thank you so much for creating my beautiful wedding dress and being so accommodating about the dress working with my unicycle- I am not sure where else I could have gone would have done that!!
My dress helped me feel like “ME” on the day, which was so important and I will treasure it forever!! Love and huggles * Leigh XXX”
The lovely and crazy Cath came to us wanting something that was “here” not to girly, not to long, not to hot as she was getting married on Christmas day on the beach in Sydney, Australia….so we got to work and made this rainbow inspired starstruck dress !!! such good fun!!! Congratulations lovely lady! xx
We Had a lovely testimonial and review left by Cath””A unique place that loves life, love and your experience there – just the best place you could go to make your dream dress a reality!! I’ve never reviewed before or felt any need, but these guys are so beyond awesome, more people should get the chance to have their wishes come true and The Couture Co. deserve all the props, praise & business for making it so xx Much love”
Cath wrote to tells us about her day “thanks so much again for all your hard work. The dress was everything I hoped it would be… It was pretty hot in the morning after some epic raining which caused no end of stress, so I wore the petticoat part of part of my dress at the beach with a light white frock, then for our first [!] xmas lunch, I had on the corset with leggings, then later when we went to like a Xmas all inclusive buffet, which was awesome and cooler, I had my full ensemble on! It was just as perfect and changeable as I’d dreamed, so I had the paper dolly dressing up combo effect that I wanted to help me feel confident throughout the whole day and thank you again so much.
So as it was just us and everything was closed, we had hours to prat about taking pics, so I’ve sent some that are styling, that showcase your awesome work [as best we could with a click stick] and just us plebbing about which was pretty much our theme – I giggled all the way through the 10 minute ceremony and as I’ve said, ended up having 2 Xmas dinners and getting totally plastered, just how we wanted it!”
I am over the moon delighted to share this awesome photoshoot that we were involved in starring the lovely HoneyPop in our Gala frock, the shoot was the brainchild of the lovely Betty from Tub Of Jelly Photography

If you were to ask our Caroline, “Is there such a thing as too much Hello Kitty?” then she would laugh and say “there is never ever too much Hello Kitty!” in her sweet Northern Irish tones…. we loved Caroline and her Ma so much, we were so excited every time she flew in for her fittings , and had such a laugh …what a lovely family …we miss them now the wedding has happened x
What an absolute joy to work with her on her wedding dress, I cried at her final fitting and on receiving her wonderful photos and heartfelt testimonial!! This is why we do our job!! this is why we love it!!
Caroline writes “I’ve always been fat my whole life, I never dreamed that I would ever get married but here I was engaged date set and starting to look for wedding dresses.
I’ve never had a lot of self confidence and have always felt that I could never be beautiful or feel it, so from the start I had so much negativity built up inside me. After endless hour’s of looking for a dress I was left feeling very disheartened, feeling that no one would cater for my size let alone my style. I decided to look on line and I came across the fabulous Couture Company looking through the site I couldn’t believe the variety of dresses they did and they catered for plus size so I plucked the courage up and contacted Jo
Jo honestly is one of the nicest person you will meet she didn’t judge me on my size or on my mega hello kitty fetish lol I couldn’t have been more delighted to have found her and her team
I’m from Northern Ireland so I flew back and forth for the fittings before I knew it it was the final fitting, as I stepped out and looked in the mirror I was gobsmacked I couldn’t get over how fabulous this dress was, it was perfect and to top it off I had an amazing hello kitty head piece custom made, I literally felt so happy, I felt beautiful which I never thought I would feel, I couldnt wait to get the dress home and show my bridesmaids and wear it on my wedding day
Jo and her team are unbelievable the quality of the dress was outstanding every little detail was perfect the placing of the lace, the hello kitty, the multi coloured buttons this dress was amazing
On the big day I had so many compliments on my dress I felt amazing and not once did I feel fat my dress summed my personality up and flattered my figure, my husband was blown away I think he had imagined some hello kitty costume to come walking down the aisle lol
I am so very thankful to Jo you don’t know it but you helped me overcome so many fears and worries you completly put me at ease and let me be me Thank u so much for making me feel beautiful and making the dress of my dreams ” Caroline xx

There are no words for how totally awesome this wedding is, and they had a Zebra there too!!!
We loved every minute of helping Becky with her dress from initial consultation to her actually coming in the shop ON HER WEDDING DAY!!!! to say hi!! (can you spot me and the team???) What a pair of legends Becky and Simon are!!
These EPIC photographs are copyright and with Thanks to Assassynation
“I couldn’t be happier with my wedding dress made by Jo and her team! Before visiting the shop I’d tried on quite a few dresses that were lovely but not very ‘me’ and I was feeling a bit stuck. I was nervous about the idea of having a bespoke dress, it felt like a lot of pressure! Fortunately, right from the start Jo just seemed to get what I liked and wanted.
The final dress was beautiful and so well made. It (obviously!) fitted perfectly and I felt amazing in it all day. Despite it being a little less traditional, everyone at the wedding loved it and it got so many compliments:)
My husband and I visited the shop after the wedding ceremony and the team all seemed so excited. They clearly take a lot of pride and care in what they do and this shows in their awesome dresses! I’ve been lucky enough to be asked to take part in the ‘real bride’ parade at the upcoming Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza, and I’m sadly very excited to have a reason to put my dress back on again! 🙂
I couldn’t recommend The Couture Company highly enough, the whole process was a pleasure :)Thank you so, so much!! xxx If you want to see Becky in her dress in the flesh, then come along to the Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza on the 21st Feb at The Bond in Birmingham
We were so excited when Sarah came to see us, and we really got to be all creative with Sarah’s Steampunk theme, she wanted a corset to show off her curves, a short skirt at the front to show off her gun holster, a jacket to keep her warm, and colours that showed off her flame red hair!! What do you think? we LOVE her!!!
Sarah wrote this fab testimonial, thanks so much Sarah xxxx
“From the minute I walked in the door of The Couture Company Jo knew exactly what I wanted and was so enthusiastic about designing my perfect steampunk wedding dress. No request or amendment was too much bother and the reveal on my final fitting was amazing, my dress was far more than I could have ever imagined. I couldn’t wait to put it on.
My wedding guests, and more importantly my husband, couldn’t believe their eyes when the saw me walk down the aisle. There were gasps and open mouths a plenty! Everyone commented on how unique and special my dress was and how it was perfect for me and suited my personality. A few even said I was the best bride they had ever seen!
Thank you to Jo and everyone at The Couture Company for making a dress (and a bride) to remember xx“

Our bride Nikki came to us wanting something quirky and cute, we loved working on this french lace and silk polka dot frock for her, and especially love the flash of apricot underneath 🙂 so I am delighted to have received these photos by Louise Holgate Photography of Nikki’s wedding!! so cute and so so gorgeous!!
Thanks so much to Nikki for writing this testimonial too…
“If anyone was to describe me, they would say I was fussy, headstrong and incredibly particular about the clothes I like! In the run up to my wedding in July last year, I visited numerous wedding shops where I was left feeling deflated as I couldn’t seem to find the dress which fitted the bill. I wanted a vintage, french style with a bit of a unique twist. After scouring the internet I came across The Couture Company in Birmingham; it was right on my doorstep! After my first session with Jo and her team, they quickly and skillfully designed a dress which met every detail that I had been looking for. Over the next few months they crafted a dress which had a traditional style but was teamed with a quirky, modern twist. The quality of the fabric was second to none and the dress was made to fit me perfectly. I can’t thank Jo and her team enough for my perfect dress. I would highly recommend these skilled ladies! Thanks , Nikki”

I am so happy to share this awesome bride and her gorgeous wedding with you today!!!!!
When Lowri came to us we were mega flatterered, not only did she travel up to see us from Devon , she also said she had done lots of research and couldn’t find anyone who did the kind of designs we did, and as designers that is a extra special compliment to know that brides recognise our own unique style.
Lowri had a wonderful fun packed wedding on the coast, jam packed with loads of activities for her guest to enjoy, Lowri and Lee thought of everything for everybody at their wedding, and that really comes across in her beautiful photographs,
I cannot thank Lowri enough, she has been such a champion for the Couture Company, not only by trusting us to design her gown along with very personalised embroideries, but by shouting about us whenever she gets the chance. I am so glad to share this lovely testimonial with you brides to be, hope fully it will give you an insight into how we work 🙂
“I knew my dress had to be red and I knew the basic shape I wanted, but finding a quirky alternative dress that was still beautiful, enhancing and not too ‘out there’ was not as easy as I assumed it would be”, she explained. “Then I found The Couture Company. I tried to find someone similar more locally but once I’d seen Jo’s dresses no-one else could compare! In the end it was so worth it to me to travel to Birmingham for my fittings. I booked an appointment and all I can say is the whole process was a dream. Jo got what I wanted from the start and was flexible enough to alter the personalisation halfway through when I changed my mind. Jo really made me look just as I imagined I would on my wedding day. She was amazing!”
Thanks to Andrea at Vevi wedding Photography
for these glorious photos
Absolutely thrilled this week to have these awesome photographs by Chris Barber from Emily’s wedding!!!
We loved working with Emily on her wedding dress in creating something that was totally her!
We were really blown away by her wonderful testimonial
” I originally tried to find a dress on the high street, but after a couple of shopping trips I couldn’t find anything that felt special enough for my wedding day. ‘That’s it’, I thought, ‘I’m going to have to go to a proper wedding dress shop’. This was something I was dreading. I knew I didn’t want to wear white and wasn’t sure if I would feel myself in a traditional gown. Where was I going to find a dress that was unique, comfortable and reflected my personality?
Then, I remembered I had seen the Couture Company at the EWE wedding fair and liked the fact that they championed brides of all shapes and sizes and could cater for a wide range of style preferences. I made an appointment… and I’m so glad I did – as soon as I stepped inside the studio I knew I didn’t have to shop anymore, I had found what I was looking for! I told Jo my ideas and before I knew it she had drawn a beautiful little sketch of my dress. It was all very exciting.
However, my favourite experience was the second fitting when I got to try my dress on for the first time. I felt the skirt was a bit too long, so I picked up the material in a haphazard way and said, ‘Oh I quite like it when it looks messy’. Jo told me not to move and immediately started pinning and cutting – with me still in the dress! It was such a spontaneous moment and it was fantastic to be a part of the creative process like that. And, the end result? I couldn’t have asked for more – it was absolutely wonderful!
I think Jo and her team played a big part in the fact that I felt just like myself on my wedding day. I didn’t have to worry about the dress as I knew every inch had been carefully crafted. As we got married near the Couture Company studio we were even able to pop in on the day and thank Jo in person. It was lovely to surprise her and allow her to see her work in all its glory!

Hayley first conatcted us, telling us she dreaded dress shopping, as she wasn’t a “girly girl” and didn’t wear dresses, but she LOVED our Inkspiration tattooed gown that she had spied when searching the web, and she ended up falling for it hook line and sinker, there were even a few tears!!!
Hayley is very much an outdoors person and she wanted her wedding to reflect that , lots of fun, and lots of dancing, and she wanted to wear something that would have room for both 🙂 Thanks Hayley for your pics and a very honest and lovely testimonial 🙂Hayley writes “Well, I never thought I’d be faced with a decision to choose a wedding dress. I don’t do dresses. Or makeup, or much girly to be honest. I’m an outdoor girl, climbing, snowboarding, and playing in the alps. Not much scope for dresses.
, After being dragged kicking and screaming into a local bridal shop with my sister. . (Which was horrendous!!) , I started scouring the Web and I spotted THE dress. Half joking with myself, but also in the knowledge it was the closest I’d come to wanting to wear one.
It had tattoos all over it. Was fifties style, funky, and not the norm. Much more like it. As my husband to be was to wear a “shite shirt”….. I’ll let you look them up. . . A proper traditional frock would not do.
I contacted Jo at the couture company, and made my appointment.
I honestly didn’t expect to burst into tears, in a good way, because I loved it so much, but also cost was not what I’d ever considered to spend, especially not on a dress!
A can of coke and piece of cake, phone call with tears to stew later, who informed me if I was crying over a dress then I’d better have it, as nothing else would do . . . Done deal. I’d have to work my butt off for the next eight weeks to have it. And so would Jo and her team as it was rather last minute.
Jo dealt with my tears and dress fear well, creating with me something exactly that I wanted, tattoos, sleeves, v neck shape, none of that satin stuff inside. . Instead some cotton, and definately not puffy. I think I became a bit bridezilla ish for a while!
My first fitting arrived, I was so excited and nervous.
Everything I had decided on went out the window, off with the sleeves, and on with the puffy. . Lots of it too. I wanted this dress to twirl when I danced. Jo altered everything, swapping and changing to my demands. Finally collecting the finished dress, with my mum in law to be. . Who was a little dubious of my plans. . .It was fantastic. And she loved it too . “Very you” she said. I just couldn’t wait to wear it now.
And it is the most wonderful dress in the world, embroidered with “bloke and bird” as we affectionately call each other! Wings on the back, and love hearts Bon Jovi style round the bottom. Red and black hem underneath. Just amazing. Loved wearing it so much, coupled up with my red doc martins 🙂
We were to marry on the Isle of skye, outside, underneath our favourite mountains.. The black Cuillin.
The weather had other ideas, tail end of hurricanes from the Atlantic lashed the north west.
We were not dampened. . . The ceremony was held inside the Sligachan hotel. It was brief, no fuss, and we were married.
We did pop outside for some wet blown away photos. . . Which to be honest summed us up perfectly rather than looking all posh and groomed, hair everywhere. . Situation normal.
My dress swung round fabulously when we danced, and blew around in style in the wind outside. Everyone spent the day photographing up close the tattoos, and the comments of admiration for it made me feel a million dollars.
You made the dream dress for me Jo and I never thought that possible. I can’t ever thank you enough, it was worth every penny and more. 🙂 xx ”

Lue and Wes got married!!!! Looks like they had and fantastic day !!
“I knew from the very first email that Jo was the one who could make my dreams come true of creating my perfect dress, I threw lots of ideas and styles at her and explained that leopard print had to be the main ingredient. So when we met up at my first appointment it didn’t take long for us to come up with the perfect dress. Jo took on board everything we had discussed, all of my ideas and threw a few of her own in and hey presto we had the blue prints for what was to be “the one” as they say you know when you have found “the dress” and there it was on paper xx over the next few months at each appointment I saw my dress go from a beautiful drawing to a beautiful stunning gown that I just couldn’t wait to wear with each appointment I fell more n more in love with my dress at that’s all thanks to Jo and her team of fantastic team of ladies who I can only describe as miracle workers dream makers and all round fantastic people xx I always dreaded that I would have to marry in white as I never knew bridal shops like couture existed (there’s nothing wrong with marrying in white but it’s just not for me) my husband was blown away with how stunning I looked and I felt amazing like a funky punky princess xx he said he fell in love with me all over again in my dress xx also I love the fact it was a two piece and I can wear my Corset with jeans etc xx of it was up to my husband I think I would be wearing my dress every day ha ha xx so thanks again to Jo and her team for making my dreams come true and designing and creating me perfect wedding dress ”

We are over the moon “albeit a blue moon” to share the photos of our gorgeous bride Charlotte and her beau Bryn’s wedding, We are so honoured that Charlotte chose us to make her wedding gown, and that she travelled from Liverpool for all her fittings . !! From the very beginning Charlotte knew she wanted blue, and the exact shade of blue too, we just had to come up with the design, something, cute , short, yet elegant, that totally suited her petite figure, I think between us we nailed it , because from what Charlotte wrote in her testimonial I hope we hit all the right buttons 🙂
Charlotte wrote these lovely words in a Thank You email, we are so blessed to have such wonderful clients and totally honoured that we get such amazing feedback
“Dear Jo and everyone at The Couture Company,
I can’t thank you enough for the absolutely stunning dress that you created for me. Our wedding day was perfect and as you can see from the photos attached we literally laughed throughout!
Walking down the aisle was in no way nerve racking for me. I thought being the centre of attention would make me squirm but when it came down to it, because I was wearing something truly beautiful which was exactly how I wanted it to be I felt completely comfortable in my own skin and I knew from the first moment I tried on a ‘traditional white wedding dress’ in a high street bridal shop that I would never feel like that in one of them.
Everyone commented on how ‘me’ my dress was which was obviously a massive compliment!
Before the ceremony I had to meet with the Registrars and when I walked through the door one of them said ‘Well I wasn’t expecting that’. I’m pretty sure the dress was a first for many!
And most importantly Bryn loved it and told me how beautiful I looked about a million times (which never gets old ha!)
Every time I visited you at the shop you were lovely and you made the whole process so stress free and friendly! I am slightly sad that I no longer have train rides to Birmingham with my sister to look forward to and the excitement of reaching the Custard Factory.
But there can always be a vow renewal and then of course I’d need another dress…
A massive thank you again!!!!!!

Thanks to Kate for her lovely words, -we are genuinely honoured and blessed to have so many awesome brides!! It means a lot that they take the time to write these testimonials “I managed to turn up to my first appointment with the lovely Jo having forgotten to bring my wedding shoes, not really aware of what on earth I would like a wedding dress to look like but being sure that I would probably just settle for white as “that’s what you do”.
Jo and made me feel comfortable from the first minute I was there and has the patience of a saint to deal with my indecision and blank face when my mum started talking about fabrics. Despite me arriving with only a length of dress I wanted in mind, by the time I left our first meeting an hour later, Jo had shaped my perfect dress on paper and, despite not having the shoes to reference, nailed the colour perfectly from a slightly rubbish photo on my phone.
After the fittings, measurements, deciding on beading, remembering my shoes and numerous bits of shortbread from the café round the corner, I got to go and collect my finished dress.
Amazingly I managed to hold it together and not blub with tears of joy (but only just), Jo and her team had done such an amazing job in finding a shape I didn’t know I had, hiding the bits I wasn’t keen on and giving me a dress that I knew I could rock down the aisle.
The dress went down a storm on our wedding day, I think everyone knew that I wouldn’t go for something traditional but they never expected purple with leopard beading! I am already trying to find a reason to go back and get more clothing from Jo (glitter jacket for Comic Con 2015!!) – the service is impeccable, professional to the end, warm and welcoming. Can’t wait to come to the next EWE or pop in when I am next in Birmingham just to say hi. ” Pop in any Time!!!!
Natalie got married in June, on a perfect summers day on the beach at Bournemouth, we loved working with her, she was pretty much our perfect client!! We had such a lovely time every time she came to the shop with her mum, Lots of laughs and excitement and the odd happy tear from mum ;-P
Natalie’s dress was made from an aqua blue silk, that was overlaid with french lance all over the bodice and sleeves, and the skirt was made from layers of tuille that were finished off in a hi-lo shape with a layer of silk organza. Natalie commisioned us also to make a bespoke belt that incorporated a blue poppy along with some shells and star fish embroidery and a matching 50’s inspired headpiece Natalie can tell you much better than I about her whole wedding experience so please read on as you look through these beautiful images by the talented Mia Photography
“I have so many lovely things to say about Jo and her team at The Couture Company I really don’t know where to start. Once I found Jo this was by far the easiest part to the wedding planning process!I guess you can say Rob and I are childhood sweethearts; I waited 13 years for him to pop the question but it was definitely worth the wait as the boy did good proposing on my 30th birthday in Vegas with a Tiffany ring!
Being plus size I was a little worried about the wedding dress part, I read lots of articles online about the difficulties people faced. I started to panic a little and was wary about stepping into a wedding dress shop.
Then I stumbled across The Couture Company, I think it was fate. I was being nosey on Facebook one day and I noticed one of my friends modelling some of their beautiful wedding dresses. I went online straight away and was so excited. Some of the dresses were being modelled by curvier girls so I felt a bit more confident about booking an appointment.
I live in Bristol but I’m from Birmingham originally so it was a great excuse to head home and it meant my mum could join me. On my way to the shop I was thinking it was going to be an awkward experience but how wrong could I be.
I walked into the shop and was greeted by the lovely Jo, we got chatting straight away about the wedding and the kind of dress I was thinking of. I remember Jo saying “right let’s get you in a dress” and that was the start of my awesome wedding dress journey!!!
I popped on a dress in a similar style to what I wanted; we were getting married on Bournemouth Beach so I knew I wanted a shorter dress and something a bit different. It was really important it had sleeves as I don’t like my arms to be on show and I really didn’t like the thought of wearing a separate jacket or bolero.
I had already chosen my bridesmaids very cute tiffany blue dresses and I loved the colour so much that I wanted to have it in my dress. I originally thought I would just have it as an underskirt so a tiny bit poking out of the dress. Then Jo suggested something a bit more daring to have it on the top part of the dress under the lace. So with a bit of blue material pinned on me I was quickly convinced to go for it.
I have one small complaint to make about The Couture Company; they have designed and created way too many beautiful dresses!! Half way through the dress making process I changed my mind about part of the dress because I kept seeing pictures of their gorgeous dresses online so I rang Jo. She was great really understanding and booked me in for another appointment to chat over things.
It was such a wonderful experience; I trusted Jo and I knew that I was going to love my dress. If you have an idea in your head of what your wedding dress would look like then I would highly recommend you book an appointment with Jo and her team straight away, it was the best decision I made.
On the day I couldn’t wait to get the dress on, I was actually ready way too early as I was so excited!
So many people complimented me on my dress and it felt so special to know I had been involved in designing it.
The Couture Company also designed a beautiful belt and head piece for me it had gorgeous sequin starfish, shells and an extra special Poppy. Robs mum sadly passed away and her favourite flower was a Poppy so it was great to be able to personalise the dress by having a lovely blue Poppy on my belt in memory of her.
Jo was amazing to work with. We had lots of giggles in the shop, the whole process was so easy and it was really exciting to see the dress come to life. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
You made me feel like a million dollars, on the best day of my life.”
