Cute as a Button!!I have no words!!! Rachel’s story about her 1950s travel inspired wedding and dress

Wow!!! Rachel wrote us an amazing story and testimonial,I’m speechless, I have no word’s I will let her tell you her story 🙂 Thanks Rachel, you were  dream client xxxxxRachel-M_The-couture-company-bespoke-alternative-wedding-dresses (26) Rachel-M_The-couture-company-bespoke-alternative-wedding-dresses (25) Rachel-M_The-couture-company-bespoke-alternative-wedding-dresses (24) Rachel-M_The-couture-company-bespoke-alternative-wedding-dresses (23) Rachel-M_The-couture-company-bespoke-alternative-wedding-dresses (22)Rachel writes “In February I left my husband-to-be, Kieran, in a snug coffee shop and popped around the corner to visit The Couture Company.  Less than an hour later I came back to find him, flushed with success, a receipt for my order in my hand. Kieran blinked, surprised. “That didn’t take long,” he said. It’s true; that initial meeting with Jo had gone incredibly smoothly. But that reflected both my general approach to wedding planning, and Jo’s professionalism and imagination.
The idea of wedding dress shopping was something I had always found challenging. I love clothes and am very feminine in my fashion tastes, so you would think wedding dress shopping would be right up my street! But I had many friends who had told me how difficult, even humilating, dress shopping could be. As someone who is short, round, and very busty, I hated the idea of being clamped into an off-the-peg sample dress four sizes too small. I looked at dresses aimed at curvier brides and saw that most of them were ugly, and seemed to be about hiding your body, not celebrating it. I knew any dress I bought in a bridal store would have to be massively modified to fit me. So instead of dealing with all that, I started thinking about having a dress made-to-measure.
I did a lot of research online, and The Couture Company was a place I felt very excited about just from its website. There were fun, flirty dresses, darkly romantic dresses, coolly elegant dresses… And they were modelled by women of different sizes. I decided I wanted to see the dresses in person, and so in November we went to the first Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza. There I got to see Couture Company dresses in action, and they were as beautiful as I’d hoped! And as a bonus, I won 20% off a commission as part of a EWE-related competition. That made up my mind.
I spent the next couple of months happily honing my Pinterest boards until I had a pretty good idea in my head of what I wanted. I knew I wanted a 50s style dress with sleeves, a full skirt and petticoats, and I wanted soft vintage shades. I took my trust iPad along to meet Jo, and she suggested I try on the Steph dress. I loved the way it swished, and the shape of it was very flattering. From there we discussed sleeve length, petticoats (lots please!) and colours. I knew I didn’t want a white dress, but I wanted something a little bridal. Jo brought out some lovely cream dupion silk and I was sold by its warmth and texture. I chose coloured silk for my belt and to trim my petticoats. And then Jo had the great idea of coloured buttons running down the back of my dress – just the kind of cute detail I like! It was a very smooth, simple process, because I already had a good idea of what I wanted, and Jo was very easily able to translate that into a design. I also ordered a corset, to give me a good silhouette and so I wouldn’t have to worry about bra straps peeking out!
Over the next few months, things continued to go very smoothly. I watched The Couture Company’s facebook page, and one day I saw a dress with a flash of brightly-coloured petticoats underneath it. “That’s what I want,” I emailed Jo, and she was very happy to tweak my order to make me pale blue petticoats. I loved going to fittings; I could see my dress slowly unfolding. It’s a leap of faith to order a dress from scratch, but having seen so many of Jo’s designs in person and online, I was very confident in The Couture Company’s ability to deliver. I liked knowing I was supporting British industry, not buying a dress made in a factory in the Far East where workers may be paid a pittance.

I’ve never cried because I’ve looked at myself, and I didn’t feel the need to cry this time, either! I’ve heard of brides saying they didn’t recognise themselves when they tried on their dresses. But I looked in the mirror and saw me. Me in a wonderful icecream-toned dress with petticoats that swirled in just the way I imagined. And I was very happy, because I had a dress that was about me, not about how anyone else thought I should look.
Our wedding day was wonderful, and my dress was a big part of that. It may have taken three bridesmaids half-an-hour to lace up my corset, when Jo had done it in five minutes by herself, but we got there in the end!  Two hours later I was walking down the aisle, and Kieran’s face lit up. As I reached him at the altar he said I looked beautiful, and I believed him.
Now my dress is zipped up in a bag in our spare room. People still talk about how much they loved my dress. I hope I’ll wear it again some day. But whatever I do with it now, I’m very grateful to Jo and the rest of her team for making me a dress that reflected my tastes and values. That’s a wonderful sort of gift. ”

Luxe Lilac Haze – a bespoke Lavender gown created with an alternative bride in mind

A while ago we collaborated with creative photographer Lisa Jane, and make up Maestro Elbie Van Eden ,and headpiece designer Cherished Vintage….

Lots of ideas flew around our pinterest boards and we created this beautiful organic inspired gown, full of the hues of lavender to the darkest Indigo, we created all the flowers in silks, and each petal was lovingly hand paimted, all the beadwork was created and is completely bespoke for this luscious luxe gown.

The shots below are some of my favourites, and what Lisa Jane and Elbie did on the day was truly gorgeous we LOVE these shots so much

Enjoy the view!!

Wow!! A gob smacking testimonial from our stunning bride in shades of Honey, Angi x

the-couture-company-alterantive-bespoke-wedding-dress-in-peach-blush (2)I am delighted to share our gorgeous bride Angi’s wedding pics, Angi came to us wanting something unusual and non-tradtional, that was still special, still bride like and still having the WOW factor!!

the-couture-company-alterantive-bespoke-wedding-dress-in-peach-blush (3)

We designed and made Angi’s gown in a honey blush shade of silk dupion and tuille, the corsetted bodice was finished with a pretty ribbon laced back, and the skirt was cut into layers and layers of asynmetric tuille, overlaid by and undulating layer of sumptious silk dupion …the-couture-company-alterantive-bespoke-wedding-dress-in-peach-blush (4)

Doesn’t she look absolutely gorgeous???the-couture-company-alterantive-bespoke-wedding-dress-in-peach-blush (5) the-couture-company-alterantive-bespoke-wedding-dress-in-peach-blush (6) the-couture-company-alterantive-bespoke-wedding-dress-in-peach-blush (7) the-couture-company-alterantive-bespoke-wedding-dress-in-peach-blush (8)

Thanks to Angi for this fabulous testimonial, we are so glad you came to us !!!

“We booked our wedding in January of this year for March 10th, leaving us less than three months to plan and pay for everything!! Unlike a lot of women I had no idea what type of dress I wanted. I had a little look online, but was overwhelmed with the choices .I went to a couple of wedding dress shops with my mom but nothing really stood out for me, I was destined for an ivory dress with lots of fancy lace n beads or just a plain strapless satin one neither of which style or idea filled me with joy!

I remembered seeing a wedding dress in a window at the custard factory, so I did a quick search online found their number and made an appointment that same day.

As soon as I walked into the shop I knew instantly this is where I would find my wedding dress. With rails full of one off beautiful creations in an array of styles and colours I was at last beginning to feel excited about my wedding dress.

Jo suggested I just try a few on so I could get an idea of what I liked and perhaps didn’t like. There wasn’t many of the latter!

I very almost went for a short wedding dress unbeknown to my husband until now!! It was stunning in a deep ivory with bud like twist designs all over with a ‘fifties’ styling. I finally decided against it but I will have that dress one day too…how long do people normally wait to renew their vows??Jo asked me to have a think at home, maybe look around and send some ideas of what i liked.

I explained to Jo about my ‘dream dress’ and together we narrowed down exactly what it was that I loved about it.

At our next meeting I was simply blown away by what Jo had sketched out for me, her talent really did amaze me my dream dress had just taken on a new identity, to say i loved it was an understatement. I still have the drawing of my dress which I intend to frame along with some of the chosen fabric. From our conversations Jo had managed to design a dress better than I had ever imagined.

I had tried on another dress in her shop in a colour that I loved so I decided on that. I also decided on a skirt and corset design, which I am so pleased about as unlike many brides I can and will be able to wear part of my wedding dress again.

The dress fittings were great and Jo and her team were very informative and understanding. Jo especially just instinctively knew what I wanted, fuller at the back, longer there, shorter here..it really was so much fun. Having a bespoke gown really is the way to go! I also chose my headpiece from there, it was again handmade and simply beautiful, along with a stole incase I got cold. Which as it snowed on the morning of my wedding was a very good investment.

On my actual wedding day everyone was complementing me on my dress all day. My husband described it as unforgettably stunning and said he was so pleased I had chosen to have a bespoke gown that was individual to me. Everyone said it was exactly my style and couldn’t have been a better suited dress.

I would not hesitate in recommending The Couture Company to anyone, I have and will be singing their praises til the end of time . My friends and I talked about planning a joint themed party for our birthdays just so we can all have corsets made by Jo.

Jo Bromley I can not thank you enough.” 🙂

When Sarah met Boris and married Colin – A Halloween Wedding

Where do I even start with Our Sarah??? She has to be one of my all time favourite brides!!!

02_C&S_004_800x533

She came to me slightly stressed as another designer had let her down, and the pink haired fairy godmother Kat at Rock n roll Bride recommended that Sarah come to me,as we were fairly local and as it happens right up her street 🙂

03_C&S_011_400x600

We got chatting and Sarah told us all about her Halloween inspired wedding, and her and Colin (her fiance) love of scare rides and attractions……..

04_C&S_261_800x533

so after we had finished designing her gown, we set to work on her headpiece! She wanted a headband that was beaded but not at all traditional, I suggested something halloweeny and tattoo inspired and we decided on a sugar skull and roses, and we named him”Boris”

Everyone meet Boris xx love him!!01_C&S_005_800x533 01_C&S_023_400x600

Sarah was a total joy to work with, she is gorgeous, fun, and has a great sense of humour, we had such a laugh, and she totally comfortable in her own skin. I thought she looked radiant and so so happy in her pics, and I just love that her and Colin make THE cutest couple!!!

Here are few more fab images from their wedding and a lovely testimonial from Sarah, Thanks so much doll xx

‘I don’t really know how words can describe the gratitude that I have to Jo and her amazing team. They picked me up and transformed a brow beaten, down in the dumps girl with a heavy heart from the shallow perceptions of mainstream wedding dress shops, into a Bride…a real Bride! With a dress and a smile and a happy heart and everything! Oh, and Boris…my headdress!

After my first chat with Jo, and explaining my previous dress traumas there was no doubt in my mind that this was the woman to make my dreams come true. She really truly understood what I was after. She got my random references to Hattie Jacques as a style icon. She asked the right questions and when I explained a bit about what me and my husband were like as a couple, our interests, and how I wanted to convey that in my outfit, there was no polite insincere laughter, no funny looks. Jo is different, in the best possible way! Nothing is too much trouble, nothing sounds too crazy, nothing is out of her ridiculously talented reach.

Her work is exceptional, and her approach is nothing short of perfect. I cannot believe that such an amazing company was right under my nose the whole time, and because of my own insecurities I didn’t spot them!

Oh and can I just add… Boris…my headpiece (which I am currently wearing as I type this) is the 2nd love of my life, after my husband of course! He is nothing short of a piece of sparkly beautiful sugarskully art!

Jo and the team really are much more than dressmakers. As a bride you put your faith and trust in a select few people to make your big day special. I truly count myself one of the luckiest brides in the world to have had the opportunity to meet Jo, and in honesty, without her I wouldn’t have felt as utterly wonderful as I did on my big day. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again…I could have died that moment knowing that I could never be happier and more confident in my own skin.

Thank you Jo

Love Sarah (and Colin) xxx ‘
